"All men, before they were strong enough to fight, were weak" - Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori developed a teaching method from which she got her name and the basic principles are: Every child is unique. It has its own personality, its own pace of life, its strengths and potential difficulties.
All children go through 'sensitive periods'. These are special sensitivities during the development process, for periods of his life where the child is completely "absorbed" by a sensitivity specific to a specific element.
These transitory periods are completed by mastering the specified item. Once this element is developed, "sensitivity" ceases to exist. Consequently, it is important that the environment offers the child at the right time the means to develop by exploiting these periods of sensitivity.
The Montessori method asserts that children can gain greater awareness in handling materials, regarding their properties (ie color, size, weight, sound). Using Montessori educational materials, children can sharpen their skills, collect and organize their sensory impressions in order to absorb knowledge.
